This morning, a high-level meeting was held between Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd, the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), and the Gambia Transport Union to address one of the most important issues facing the efficiency of trade facilitation today: eTracking device overstay alerts.
The session was highly engaging and productive, underscoring the commitment of all parties to ensure smooth cargo movement, fair enforcement, and improved trust among transport operators, customs officers, and service providers.
Tackling the Challenge: Why eTracking Overstay Alerts Matter
Nick TC-Scan’s eTracking system has been at the forefront of modernizing trade in The Gambia, giving customs and border authorities real-time visibility into cargo movement across the country.
However, in recent months, a recurring challenge has emerged: system alerts about eTracking devices overstaying beyond their approved timelines.
Drivers often reported these delays were due to vehicle breakdowns.
Customs monitoring officers, on the other hand, raised concerns about possible misuse or unauthorized stops.
This friction created uncertainty and slowed down processes — something that all stakeholders agreed needed a lasting solution.
A New Understanding: Fairness Meets Accountability
At today’s meeting, a comprehensive and balanced agreement was reached:
✅ If a driver overstays due to genuine breakdown, Nick TC-Scan & GRA Monitoring officers will verify the incident. Once confirmed, no overstaying charges will be applied.
✅ If the overstay is unjustified or unrelated to breakdown, Drivers will be liable to pay the standard overstay fine, ensuring compliance and fairness across the system.
This decision not only protects law-abiding drivers but also strengthens trade integrity by discouraging deliberate misuse of the system.
Why This Matters for The Gambia’s Trade Sector
This collaborative approach highlights a new chapter in trade facilitation:
Stronger partnership between service providers, customs authorities, and the transport union.
Greater fairness for drivers, ensuring they are not unfairly penalized.
Enhanced efficiency in the monitoring of goods in transit, helping to reduce smuggling, delays, and revenue leakage.
By listening to the concerns of drivers and combining that with strict accountability measures, Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd, GRA, and the Gambia Transport Union are ensuring that trade keeps moving — faster, safer, and more transparent.
Looking Ahead
This agreement is a reflection of our shared vision: to make The Gambia a leader in efficient, transparent, and technology-driven trade facilitation.
Nick TC-Scan (Gambia) Ltd remains committed to:
Supporting GRA in achieving revenue protection goals.
Collaborating with the Gambia Transport Union to ensure smooth cargo movement.
Leveraging eTracking technology to safeguard the nation’s trade corridors.
Together, we are building a system where innovation meets integrity, and where every stakeholder benefits from a fair, efficient, and transparent trade environment.
